Ho Ho Ho… The Q’ster has Returned

NewbreenThe Winter Event is back! Is it me or does this thing get a little longer each year? It’s all good, don’t get me wrong. That takes a little pressure off the players that can’t play everyday to get the awesome ship.

I have 960 gorgeous 8×10 glossies of his royal Q-wonder-ness but alas, they shall lie dormant yet again. You see, the sneaky, little, capitalist, weasel Ferengi have hi-jacked this event. Like they did on Risa under the warm rays of not one, but two suns, so they have convinced the mighty Q to have them switch payment plans here in the land of winter white. Now we get boring Winter Event Vouchers to use as currency to buy the monolithic new ship. Really ‘Vouchers”? Seriously, are we applying for welfare here? Well if anyone can dress up a voucher, it’s a Ferengi… oooh, aaahhh shiny vouchers 😉

This is no government handout my friends, you have to run around a slippery ice coated race track whilst being chased by a scary critter or notorious alien! OK, actually it’s so easy to earn the vouchers that we should be throwing Cryptic a party 🙂 The race is a little tricky your first time, but once you get the hang of it you will win every time. It takes all of a couple of minutes each day to get 40 vouchers. So in 25 days you have the ship having only worked for mere seconds each day. While you are in Q’s strange winterized version of Alice’s rabbit hole, take a look around and enjoy some of the fun events and activities.

This year’s ship is a T6 Cruiser from the Breen Confederacy. That thing is rather ominous, isn’t it? It represents the 4th freebie ship to come to us via the Winter Event. All of the ships have been top grade contenders and now for you fans of the big scary Dreadnought, your patience shall be rewarded. Unfortunately it appears that everyone’s favorite omnipotent being is not offering players a chance at the previous ships from Winter’s past 😦 I checked the event and only the new T6 Dreadnought appears. Hopefully they will add the ability to get those older ships for newer players that might not have been around back in the day.

This new ship offers up bonus perks for loading Breen consoles on her. Not just the regular set bonus but extra bonuses unique to this ship. I am looking forward to flying the ship! It really looks like a strong ship compared to the other Dreadnoughts in the game. I doubt it is the very best but it is competitive, at least by the numbers. I may do a Dreadnought Showdown in the next few weeks 🙂

I picked up the final piece to the space set offered up for completing “Stormbound”. I like flying ships with these special sets. It adds variety to the game. Sometimes the sets are a bit blah, but usually they are pretty good. This latest set is ideal for a science ship or a ship captain that utilizes a variety of Science BOFF abilities.

There is a lot of grinding required in most MMOs and Star Trek Online is certainly no exception. I do like the fact that the game offers a great deal of pretty decent ships and gear for a very little grinding and no out of pocket real world cash. I also like the fact that you can solo in this game better than most MMOs. Happy Holidays to all and you guys over at Cryptic, keep up the good work.

  1. There was one of these Breen dreadnaughts in an STF I ran last night. Not sure how anyone can get one so quickly, especially when the glossies from previous years had been invalidated.
