Mudd’s Latest Pack could be Worth Billions

Before I get started FYI: I finally got around to updating the BOff Power and Flexibility calculator. Check it out here: BOff.

Today they launched another crazy Mudd deal and it is called the “Stealing Time” pack. This pack gets you a choice of three items in a list of six for 14,700 Zen. Here in the US, that is $147.50 which is no small amount. But it is packed with some delectable choices and for some players this could be a real value. However for me, I’m not so sure.

The screen shot top right shows the six items and you get to pick any three. The ships are all account wide unlocks and that is a very important distinction for the normally tradeable Amarie and temporal ships. Typically when you buy a ship on the exchange it is packaged in a box that can be opened by any one of your characters. However the moment you unpack the ship it is bound to the character. These are specially identified as account unlocks so it is highly unlikely they are tradeable.

Yesterday I had Rodanna take a shopping trip on the exchange to get an idea of what the normally trade able ships in this pack are selling for. Here is what she found:

  • T-6 Amarie Class Smuggler’s Escort – 4 available starting  at 1.09 billion EC
  • T-6 Temporal Science Vessel – 8 available starting at 575 million EC
  • T-6 Temporal Destroyer – 6 available starting at 385 million EC

Full disclosure: I have never unlocked any of the three ships posted here, but every ship I have ever bought on the exchange was limited to the character that opens the box. So this makes those three ship choices above rather appetizing. The temporal packs would automatically unlock the version of the ship appropriate for the faction of the character that unlocked the box. At the very least the T6 Temporal ships are worth 9,000 Zen each because they unlock account wide and offer three faction specific variants. Taking the three ship packs has a theoretical value of 21,000 Zen.

The temporal science vessel can be had easily for less than 200 million EC but that has a convertible value in Zen. Lockbox keys are an excellent measure of EC to Zen value and bulk keys right now will sell immediately around 61.5 million for 10 keys. 10 key bundles are 1125 Zen so here’s the math for the three ships above at Zen values. 1.09 billion EC = 19,939 Zen. That is just for the ONE Amarie ship and that unlocks for just ONE character. The Destroyer comes in at 7,042 Zen, again a single character unlock, finally the cheap one the Sci vessel works out to 9,350 Zen but once again a single character unlock. These ships from Mudd are account unlocks! The value is irrefutable but the ship I really want is the Amarie and the temporal ships are nice and all but I don’t really WANT them per se. So I have to drop 14,750 Zen to get the one thing I really want and the other stuff is fine and well priced, but I didn’t really want it before so why do I need it now?

I don’t have 15k Zen lying around and I certainly don’t have enough time to grind out enough dilithium via mining nor do I want to mine that much dilithium anyway. I would have to reach into the ‘ole wallet and pay real cash for this bundle.  It is tempting, but I’m not so sure I am gonna do it.

I love that smuggler though. Look at those stats and the bridge layout is the bomb. This BOff setup has a 20.39 flexibility rating and 43.33 power rating which is about as good as it gets for a non-raider class ship. It has solid turn rate, excellent hull for an escort, and a very science like 1.35 shield modifier. It even has a cloak albeit the crappy standard variety. The only real downside is the slightly slippery inertia rating of 50. No wonder this thing fetches King Midas coin on the exchange. I think the admiral would wreck the universe in this ship. Geez I’m starting to talk myself into it.

The Temporal ships have the advantage of actually being a three ship combo because a different ship unlocks for each of the three factions and this is an account unlock according to Cryptic. I do like the Temporal Destroyers as they are usable by any career path captain more or less.

If I buy this thing I will take the Amarie, Temporal Destroyer, and 2-T6 tokens which in effect gives me 6 T6 ships for the price of 5. But since they are account wide the comparable EC price for the Amarie and the Destroyer spread out over my 15 characters is a whopping 24.75 BILLION EC using the cheapest ones Rodanna could find. The bottom line is simply this, at 14,750 Zen it is a great deal, but a Bugatti Veyron at $300,000 would be a great deal and I couldn’t buy one even at that price unless I lived in it. Dropping nearly 15 thousand Zen for effectively 1 item I am really Jonesing for and 5 others I kind of want is a tough pill to swallow. But I might just force it down my throat anyway, we’ll see.

  1. Careful with this one! The cheap Temporal Science vessels you can find on the Exchange aren’t the ones in this pack. Those are usually either the T5 versions, or the T6 Voth Bastille Temporal Science Vessel, which is a very different ship than the no-prefix T6 Temporal Science Vessels.

The actual T6 Temporal Science Vessels were going for 630M EC a few days ago, but today they’re down to 575M EC.

    1. I checked my hand written note from Rodanna 😉 seriously I wrote 575 million on a note and typed 175 million in the post. You were spot on I totally typoed the hell of that so I corrected the post to reflect the actual numbers for the T6 temporal at 575 million EC with a relative Zen value of 9350. Geez, the T5 version isn’t even that cheap 🙂
